Not a recording.
A living ocean.

Drift uses real ocean, tidal, and weather data to generate soundscapes that breathe, shift, and evolve — just like the sea itself. Never a loop. Never the same twice.

Other apps loop recordings.
Drift generates an ocean.

Most sound apps play the same 30-second clip on repeat. Your brain notices — even when you don't. Drift pulls real tidal patterns, wind speeds, and weather conditions to shape sounds that shift and breathe naturally. The result is something your mind actually believes.

Driven by real data

Real tidal cycles, wind patterns, and atmospheric pressure shape every wave you hear. The ocean in your headphones follows the one outside.

Never loops, never repeats

Because the data is always changing, the sound is always changing. No loops for your brain to latch onto. Just continuous, natural variation.

Your brain believes it

Drift off faster, focus longer, and feel calmer — because your mind responds to natural variation the way it responds to the real thing.

Real data in, real sound out

1

Pick a coastline

Choose a real location — or let Drift pick one for you. Each coast sounds different.

2

Shape your sound

Layer in rain, wind, or thunder. Adjust the mix. The data does the rest.

3

Let it drift

Tides rise. Wind shifts. The sound evolves on its own while you sleep, work, or unwind.

Powered by nature. Built for life.

Live ocean influence

Swells roll in from actual buoy data. Tides rise and fall on schedule. High tide at midnight sounds different from low tide at dawn.

Live weather influence

Wind speed, weather conditions, and water temperature at your chosen coast shape the sound in real time.

Layered soundscapes

Mix in rain, wind, thunder, and birds. Each layer responds to the same real-world data.

Sleep timer

Audio fades gently as you fall asleep. Wake up to silence, not a dead battery.

Built for overnight use

Real-time sound generation uses a bit more battery than a typical audio app, but it's optimized for all-night sessions.

Common questions

What do you mean by "real data"?
Drift pulls swell data, tidal predictions, wind speed, weather conditions, and water temperature from real coastal buoys provided free of charge by NOAA. This data shapes how the sounds are generated, so the waves you hear follow real-world patterns instead of playing from a fixed recording.
Is Drift really free?
Yes. Drift is free to download and use with no account required. There's an optional premium upgrade for extra features, but everything you need to enjoy the app is included for free.
Does it need an internet connection?
Drift works best with a connection so it can pull fresh data, but it caches recent conditions and continues generating sound seamlessly offline.
Will it drain my battery?
Drift uses a bit more battery than a typical audio app since it's generating sound in real time rather than playing a file. That said, it's optimized for overnight use — most people plug in at bedtime anyway.
What about my privacy?
Drift uses basic analytics to improve the app, but never for tracking or advertising. No personal data is collected, no account required.
